Building Integrated Photovoltaics

Building Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV)

Building Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) will play a particularly important role in helping the building sector to become CO2 neutral by 2050 – the goal it has been set by the EU.

The Solar Engineering Unit can offer modelling, testing and performance characterization of BIPV that enable heat recovery.

The SEU developed one of the first BIPV demonstration units in Europe under a Thermie Program (SE-142-97-GR-ES), which involved integrating a grid-connected 50 kWp solar photovoltaic array on the southern facade and roof of the NTUA’s Chemical Engineering building complex, in a standard and hybrid PV-Thermal configuration, meant to improve the thermal comfort in the adjacent large laboratory space.
